Religious centres

Church of England

The parish church of St John the Baptist in the centre of the village is a pretty 13th century church built on the site of an earlier Saxon or Norman church.  The South Aisle was added in the 15th century and was paid for by Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII.

The church is part of a team mission community, and more information on this can be found at the following web  site:

Methodists

The Methodist Chapel in Higher Town is the oldest methodist chapel in Devon which is still in regular use.  It is part of the Tiverton and Wellington Methodist Circuit, of which more details can be found here:

Messy Church

Messy Church is a fun, relaxed, family-centred approach to worship. Based on the core values of creativity, hospitality and celebration. It provides a fantastic way for families to come together in friendship and fellowship.  The churches in Sampford Peverell are supporting this, with a small team of people drawn from several different churches running it.

Each month children of all ages and their families will gather at 9.30am and start with breakfast - chatting around tables is a great way to build friendships. After the theme is introduced, which may include watching a short film, children along with their families spend lots of time enjoying crafts, activities and games - all linked to the theme (hence Messy Church). At the end of the event everyone gathers together for a time of celebration, with songs, bible stories and prayer.
